Day 12 - Rome Wanderings

March 22, 2019

After our Vatican tour we hopped on to a Hop On/Hop off tour bus. We had free access for a couple of days as a part of the Roma pass we'd bought earlier in the day.

Our energy level was pretty low after the Vatican and this seemed like a good way to see some of the famous sights.

I'm not sure what this is but it was photogenic.

Same with these ruins.

This is the Italian National Parliament building.

These armed soldiers are guarding the entrance to the European Parliament building.

These two shots show the Fountain of Moses which marked the terminus of the Acqua Felice aqueduct. It was built in 1585 - 88.

This is the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs. Original design by Michelangelo in the ruined Baths of Diocletian.

Here's a street view from the top of the Hop On bus.

Is this a mediocre bar? Or a place where nasty people gather?

The bus passed by the famous Roman Colosseum. According to the tour guide, it attracts 30,000 people per day. We were too tired to get off and take the tour. I used the Nikon super zoom to get a couple of shots.

Nearby is the Circus Maximus, once again just a shot from a distance.

One last shot from the bus and we hopped off. The Parliament building is in the background.

This is the best shot to date of a Hooded Crow, taken as we walked to a Metro Station.

After exiting at our station, we took a side trip to the Piazza del Popolo (place of the People). This is a large public gathering place in central Rome. It's also near the gateway to the Borghese Park, which will be seen in upcoming posts.

There's a nice fountain beside the obelisk.

This young girl really liked the Fountain.

And here's Edith making plans for the next day.

This was the end of Day 2 in Rome, another three full days to go.
