Day 19 - Last Day in Venice

This was our last full day in Italy, we'd be taking the train to Milan tomorrow and then flying back to New York, then to Toronto and then back to Vancouver.

I decided to start this post with a video showing what riding the water buses was like:

I also took some still shots, including this odd look at the twisty looking bridge over top of us.

In a city surrounded by water there's going to be a lot of trash to collect. I'm not sure if all these items of luggage were pulled out of the water.

These two guys look like they have a long way to go to get to their destination:

This looks like a river cruise ship:

And this is an Italian battleship. Who has the bigger navy? Italy or Canada?

Coast Guard ships are essential here:

Today we visited the Musei Correr, another spectacular building.

This is an orate table setting, but is it functional?

We explored a few rooms, all of them very ornate.

As usual, the ceilings were spectacular.

There were some interesting statues in the Museum, but not much information was presented.

These three dimensional engravings must have been painstaking to create.

There were some ancient books on display as well.

And some coins ( I assume Roman, but could be wrong).

I'm not clear on what this was but it was impressive.

As was this tapestry.

This was a artist's rendering of a map of Venice from the 1600's.

This statue is titled "Gaeta Morto" which I assume deals with the death of Gaeta.

This statue celebrates Dionysus, the god ot the grape harvest. Here he is with a Satyr.

This in an ancient Mummy in the museum.

We're out of the museum now with a few last shots of the city. This is one of the major canal bridges in Venice, the Ponte dell'Accademia.

I caught a movie of this pigeon eating this piece of fruit but it's too big to upload to this blog. Here's the still photo.

And here's a last look at a Black-headed Gull.

The Venice blog has to end with a Gondolier.

I did not take any photos after this day. We trained to Milan the next morning and arrived at the airport early on the 30th.

Upon checking in with Delta Airlines, we were offered a chance to earn $1000 US for being pulled off our scheduled flight, which was overbooked. We did end up getting pulled and flew back to New York on an Alitalia flight. It took a while to get our $500 US gift cards, but we're using them now as much as we can.

We ended up home in Vancouver via Toronto after an overnight stay near La Guardia Airport in New York.
