Day 9 - Isle of Capri Part 2

March 19, 2019

As mentioned in the previous post, the lower town of Capri is larger that Anacapri. Here's a view of Capri as we came down the mountain on the bus.

This is a street view of Capri.

This next shot has multiple elements:

  • The incredible wall itself
  • The street sign which excludes automobiles. Certain areas of Italy exclude non-resident autos with ambiguous signs.
  • Edith chopped off at the neck.

I believe this is looking up on Capri, not Anacapri which would be in the opposite direction.

For the food fans, here's a shot of shome Italian Pastries.

And here's a nearby deli display.

We toured around for a bit longer and then got called back to the boat. Although it was early afternoon, part of the tour included a circuit of the island.

The island is famous for a collection of sea caves called grottos. The most famous is the Blue Grotto. It's also the most susceptible to closure due to sea conditions. We were informed by the captain that is was closed today, but we did get close to it.

They showed us a magazine photo of what the grotto looked like when open.

Here's a short movie of how close to the rocks we were.

This wall up on the mountainside was interesting.

This lighthouse looks modern and well maintained.

Here's a movie of the more accessible Green Grotto.

There's also a Red Grotto, which only showed well in this movie.

These are The Faraglioni, three pillars rising out of the sea on the southeast side of the island. The first one on the left which is still attached to the island is named after our cat Stella :-)

As we got closer the photographers got busy as captured by Edith.

This is looking through the gap in the middle pillar.

At some time on the tour the Captain realizes it's time to pour some shots:

We made it back safely and were able to get transport back into town. I took this amazing shot of roads carved out of an extremely rocky area.
